I see Mt. Apo, the highest mountain in the Philippines robustly peeking at the wake boarders. Wakeboarding in Davao started sometime in 2009 when it opened the wake boarding facility at Deca Homes in Brgy.Tacunan in Mintal, Davao City Philippines. Said to be the largest wakeboarding park in South East Asia and the first wakeboarding park in Mindanao. It features a state-of-the-art overhead cable system, a restaurant and a massage center.
Getting to Deca Wake Park from the Davao city’s bustling center would require a little effort. But for adrenaline junkies who are itching to get the ride of their life, I have commuting directions for you at the bottom of this post. I am blessed because my host, Olan who happens to leave near the area took me there last summer.
The wakeboarding rate at Deca Wakeboarding Park is expensive compared to wakeboarding in CWC Camarines Sur. Wakeboarding in Davao starts at 600 pesos (4 hours) plus the board rental fee of 250 pesos (half-day), for the Deca Homes wakeboarding rates see the bottom of this post.
Although the amiable wake boarding instructors are always ready to assist, I was too timid to try wakeboarding in Davao because it seems everybody’s an expert. Sadly, there is no Winch Park like that in CWC, the cable park for first timers or visitors new to wakeboarding. It would have been better if they have one for amateurs so that newcomers like us won’t be hesitant to try this outdoor sport. But oh boy, I had fun watching them, especially the ladies! It’s my first time to see experienced female wake boarders!

Wakeboarding in Davao City
I heard that there’s a chance that cable wakeboarding will possibly be included in the 2020 Olympics. So I’m really delighted to see Filipino’s getting hook into this adventure sports. If this comes true, most likely there’s a good chance for Filipino wake boarders to make it to the 2020 Olympics.
How to get to Deca Homes Wakeboarding Park in Davao City:
There are direct flights to Davao City from Manila, Cebu, Iloilo, Zamboanga city and Cagayan de Oro.
Look for a Mintal-bound jeep. (I usually take the jeep near Davao Doctors Hospital at San Pedro St, near Quirino Ave). Travel time is roughly 30 minutes, fare is Php 20 pesos. The jeep will stop in Mintal.
Ride a tricycle or motorcycle to take you to Deca Wakeboarding Park. Fare is about Php 30 (special rate). Travel time is about 5-10 minutes.
